HBO’s Industry, the hedonistic workplace drama love child of Succession and Euphoria, just entered its third season. Unsurprisingly, there are new players on Pierpoint’s trading floor. One of these fresh faces is new trainee, Sweetpea Golightly, who arrives at her desk clad in Bottega, ring light in hand, ready to film a morning-in-the-life TikTok. Sweetpea could be written off as a walking Gen-Z stereotype and in many ways, her character is reflective of what has come to signify Gen Z’s work ethic. Beyond just being smart and driven, she utilizes her innately online existence to acquire passive income. The character is portrayed by Brighton-born actress Miriam Petche, who expressed her admiration for her character’s girlboss sensibilities when we slid into her DMs last week to find out what her TikTok FYP looks like.

JULIETTE JEFFERS: Ok so to start off, A/S/L?

MIRIAM PETCHE: 23/F/Brighton.

JEFFERS: Cool. What’s in your system right now?

PETCHE: I just finished my halloumi wrap and I’m onto my second coffee. I have my iced latte at the ready, she’s next to me right now.

JEFFERS: Cute. Love a halloumi wrap.

PETCHE: Same. I do mine with honey and chili. It’s the best.

JEFFERS: So you play a TikTok influencer on Industry, but what does your TikTok FYP look like?

PETCHE: Lots of very mindful, very cutesy very demure. I didn’t actually know what that was until recently, even though I can be pretty chronically online. I think Sweetpea would love that trend.

JEFFERS: Sweetpea is demure.
PETCHE: There are also the “best restaurant in London” videos. I always watch them, even though I’ve never actually gone to their recommendations. I can’t remember the name of the account, but they interviewed Stanley Tucci once. I couldn’t have saved a TikTok faster.

JEFFERS: Did you watch any specific influencers’ content to prepare for the role of Sweetpea?

PETCHE: Good question. Not really. I didn’t want it to feel as though I was copying anyone or their style of speaking. It was more about figuring out how she would authentically interact with the internet, and also how she feels about it when the camera is off…

JEFFERS: I always wondered about that when I get the “a day in my life working in finance” videos on my FYP.

PETCHE: Yes, I love a day-in-the-life video. I could watch them for hours.

JEFFERS: I love all that girlboss content too, because it’s incredible how they have time to do everything they do and then put out a perfectly edited video. That’s literally Sweetpea’s vibe.

PETCHE: Seriously. I have so much admiration for her. Also, her hair and outfits are always perfectly put together. Where does she find the time?

JEFFERS: Exactly! You would think it’s unrealistic, but that type of girl totally exists.

PETCHE: They do!

JEFFERS: What was it like becoming familiar with all the finance jargon for Industry? Do you feel like you know something about it now, or are you like, “I’m just delivering the lines”?

PETCHE: It was definitely something I was not familiar with. To be honest, I kind of liked the challenge. I wanted to understand on a base level what was going on, but sometimes I would just play the emotions if I was confused. There’s a website called Investopedia that was so helpful with the financial jargon.

JEFFERS: Maybe I should start having Investopedia pulled up while I’m watching…

PETCHE: Ahahahaha. Honestly, that’s a good idea.

JEFFERS: My last Industry-specific question is one that I can’t figure out how to answer correctly. Fuck, marry, kill: Rob, Yasmin, Harper?

PETCHE: Omg.  It’s too complicated. I would stay out of the drama.

JEFFERS: Good answer.

PETCHE: Thank you.

JEFFERS: It was an impossible question. What were your last three Google searches?

PETCHE: Let me go check.

Miriam Petche

PETCHE: Grubbs is a burger place in Brighton, which I have clearly misspelled.

JEFFERS: Very consistent with the Brighton food content. Are Jellycats those really soft plushies? The little rabbits?

PETCHE: Yes! These guys:

JEFFERS: Omg the croissant.

PETCHE: I know, it’s a need.

JEFFERS: It’s so good.  I think I felt a Jellycat for the first time in 2016 and it changed my life.

PETCHE: It can be pretty life-changing stuff.

JEFFERS: What’s your online stalking platform of choice?

PETCHE: Instagram, definitely.

JEFFERS: Probably same. Though you can find out a lot on Linkedin…

PETCHE: I’ve never done that! But doesn’t it tell you who’s looked at your page?

JEFFERS: There’s a way to prevent that, I think. Or they can’t see who it is if they don’t have premium? I’m revealing too much.

PETCHE: Oh, then let me go make an account.

JEFFERS: Very Industry-coded.

PETCHE: Very Industry-coded.

JEFFERS: Ok my last question, along the lines of revealing too much: what’s your password?

PETCHE: Oh, girl. Time for me to log off!

JEFFERS: She’s cyber-secure.

PETCHE: She’s trying.
