Steele FC Wants to Eat Pastries and Cereal All the Time
In the video for his single “Cherry” (which you can watch below), the Brooklyn musician Steele FC (formerly known as Steele, who was formerly known as Brooklyn Steele, who was born) floats along the East River in a dinghy with nothing but his guitar and a whole lot of feelings. The track, which features the French performer Soko, is off Steele FC’s upcoming EP Here Comes (Steele FC). Here, get to know the singer and songwriter a little better as he answers some questions from the writings of Warhol.
ANDY WARHOL: What did you eat for breakfast?
STEELE FC: A slice of bougie seed toast, a slice of bougier pecan cranberry toast both with peanut butter andn jam and hemp seeds, plus matcha and oat milk overnight oats, a cold brew with no ice, and a wee glass of Emergen-C. I always eat too much breakfast and then I get too tired for the day.
WARHOL: What was your first job?
STEELE FC : My first summer job was pulling weeds at a minigolf place in exchange for free ice cream. First adulthood job was slinging overpriced clothes in a stupid Danish clothing store.
WARHOL: Who was the nicest person you worked for?
STEELE FC: Myself. I am a good boss to myself.
WARHOL: What’s your favorite movie?
STEELE FC: Notting Hill.
WARHOL: Who are your favorite actors?
STEELE FC: Meryl Streep, John Cazele, Tony Sirico, and Leo.
WARHOL: Do you play an instrument?
STEELE FC: No.
WARHOL: Do you dream?
STEELE FC: Of becoming a professional athlete, yes. Every minute.
WARHOL: Showers or baths?
STEELE FC: Bath lovers are chaos agents.
WARHOL: Are you a good cook? If so, what’s your specialty?
STEELE FC: I’m lazy, but when I get the urge to cook something nice I go off. I’m embarrassed to broadcast it, but I’m a *~vegan~*. I’ve been told however, (by my carnivore girlfriend) that I make a restaurant quality burger. In my expert opinion, the secret to any good cooking is unloading tons of salt and pan lube (that’s an industry term for oil or butter).
WARHOL: Is there anything you regret not doing?
STEELE FC: Paying attention in science class. Gun to my head, I couldn’t tell you one accurate thing about physics.
WARHOL: How many tubes of lipstick do you use a day?
STEELE FC: Three. I unload a whole tube on the lips after each meal.
WARHOL: When do you get nervous?
STEELE FC: Right before my very unimportant adult rec league soccer games.
WARHOL: What do you like in a person?
STEELE FC: Funny.
WARHOL: What do you think about love?
STEELE FC: If you don’t bottle up your fleeting feelings and resentments, and are understanding and nice to each other, you can probably ride companionship till the end.
WARHOL: Why can’t it just be magic all the time?
STEELE FC: Why can’t I just eat cereal and pastries all the time?
WARHOL: How many hotels have you been kicked out of?
STEELE FC: Every single one I’ve ever stepped foot in. I’m actually banned from entering every hotel on earth.
WARHOL: What’s the craziest thing a fan has ever sent you?
STEELE FC: When a fan actually sends me something, I’ll let you know. Currently accepting packages!
WARHOL: What are you reading right now?
STEELE FC: Inside of a Dog by Alexandra Horowitz, which is a book on dog psychology. Another book called The Companion Species Manifesto – Dogs, People, and Significant Otherness by Donna Haraway. That one is a book about our relationship to animals. And Beware of Pity by Stefan Zweig, which isn’t about dogs OR animals.
WARHOL: Do you have a dream role?
STEELE FC: Star center-back for Arsenal Football Club. That, or playing a really cool and heroic knight in a medieval period drama.
WARHOL: What kind of roles are you after now?
STEELE FC: Only the best.
WARHOL: What do you do in your spare time?
STEELE FC: In my spare time I’m eating ceeal, distance running, playing soccer, and viciously arguing about sports with my friends..
