YEEHAW!
Mason Ramsey on God, Fame, and Mania
Six years after he first appeared in this magazine (back when he was the viral sensation known as Yodel Boy), the 18-year-old country singer is back, this time with a new Christmas EP, a brand-new whip, and answers to some pretty personal questions.

What are you embarrassed by?
I don’t get embarrassed by much but my grandpa’s jokes in front of strangers definitely get me sometimes.
Are you an honest person?
I try to be. Especially when I’m writing songs, I always want to write from an honest, authentic place because I know someone who is listening can relate to my story.
What’s the weirdest thing in your closet?
Ghosts. Ha! Just kidding. I love burning incense, so maybe extra incense?
What do you listen to when you’re manic?
Anything upbeat. I love classic rock, so something along those lines.
How often do you go home?
I’m on my headline tour right now, which has been awesome. The only downside is I only make it back home about once a month. When I do get to go, I love to spend time with my family and my animals. I have a horse named Arthur Morgan and my favorite cat Meow Meow.
What’s the last thing you regret buying?
The wrong-size windshield wipers for my truck. I have a 1968 Chevrolet K10 that I call Bigfoot and working on it is my favorite pastime. Rookie mistake buying the wrong part—I’m still kicking myself for it.
Who makes you feel special?
My car. Probably not the answer you expected, but I’ve worked hard to restore it, and it’s a symbol of that hard work and passion. I feel accomplished when I look at my car.
What are you wearing right now?
I’m pretty simple when I’m not onstage. Right now I’m wearing a vintage AC/DC shirt and some old Levis.
What do you listen to before a show?
Journey and Elvis are usually on my go-to playlist before a show. My songs have a lot of classic rock influences and styles inspired by Elvis and that era.
Where do you want to travel next?
Hawaii would be the perfect place to relax after I wrap this leg of the tour. A Hawaiian holiday sounds great.
What are your pre- and post- show snacks?
SunChips and beef jerky. When I’m on tour I also like to ask if there is a local staple that I have to try while I’m in town.
Is fame important to you?
Not really. I do music because it’s all I know to do—it’s what I love. The attention that comes along with that has just been part of the territory.
What’s your secret?
If I tell you, it wouldn’t be a secret now, would it? It’s a good one though.
What music do you work out to?
AC/DC is always on the playlist.
Who do you worship?
God.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
I have a crazy obsession with Dubble Bubble. I eat an embarrassing amount of it while I’m playing video games like Fortnite or GTA V.
Who would you switch lives with?
I don’t think that I would. I like being myself and learning from all the experiences I have gotten to have, good or bad. I’m only 18 and feel like I’ve lived a lot of life, yet there are so many goals and dreams I’m striving to achieve.
