Lexee Smith Made Us a Playlist For Getting Loose
Welcome to SOUND ADVICE, Interview’s weekly destination for playlists curated by our friends, enemies, and lovers. In recent weeks, we’ve featured playlists from FearDorian, Soccer Mommy, and Wallows. This week’s edition comes straight from dancing queen Lexee Smith, the L.A. it girl behind the movement of your favorite music videos. After getting grilled by her bestie Addison Rae for our March 2025 issue, she made us a three-and-a-half-hour playlist to free our bodies to titled “WWW,” featuring Lady Gaga, DJ Assault, and Kim Gordon—plus, she gave us a look into her dancewear shopping habits, dream stage partners, and early musical memories.

Where do you dance? Everywhere.
What inspires you? Literally anything.
Who do you trust most with the aux? My little brothers Jaxon and Jett.
What iconic music video have you memorized the choreography for? Honestly, I have the memory of Dory in Finding Nemo. But “Do You Remember the Time” by Michael Jackson is one I wish I knew right now. Maybe I’ll learn it.
You’re the leader of the Bling Ring. Whose closet are you raiding? Maybe Kim K’s.
Where do you find new music? I Shazam a lot. I’m lucky to hear good music everywhere I go. The soundtrack of my life is pretty awesome. I also dig some days. And I will say, my moments of discovery and accumulation come in seasons. When I’m blessed, I’m very blessed.
What’s your most unpopular dance opinion? Most of the time, I like the way a pedestrian would dance over the way a trained dancer would dance.
Fuck, marry, kill: styles of dance? Fuck freestyle, kill clogging, marry ballet. I feel like my life partner should have more structure than me. Balance.
What does your notes app look like? Like I should be checked into a mental institution that has pink walls 🙂
Who makes the hottest dancewear? I like all the classics. Dancers Barre on Ventura has such a great selection.
What song on this playlist makes you go apeshit? “I Kiss Your Lips” by Tokyo Ghetto Pussy always makes me jump up and down and smile really hard. Also great to run to. I have a vivid memory running around NYC to this song.
What album was your coming-of-age soundtrack? Maybe Bangerz.
What’s your earliest musical memory? Right now I’m thinking about jamming to Pink’s M!ssundaztood album with my nana when we would have slumber parties.
What song is your guilty pleasure? I don’t feel guilty listening to anything I like.
You just arrived at the function. What are you drinking? Ketel One martini with a twist extra dry or mezcal on the rocks with an orange slice.
Dead or alive, what artist do you want to dance onstage with? I would have loved to be the feminine visual embodiment of a Jimi Hendrix guitar solo.
Name three things you’d have in your dream dance studio: A closet that contains a collection of items that help me channel and metamorphose into whatever I’m meant to be that day… or hour; a Hello Kitty translucent bong; a spotlight.
