Exclusive Video Premiere: ‘Golden Ticket,’ Highasakite

Opening Norwegian band Highasakite’s single “Golden Ticket,” vocalist Ingrid Helene Håvik sets a somber tone: “God if you’re still watching / There are no more happy days / God if you’re still watching / There’s no more celebration.” Though the sentiments are dark, her voice is simultaneously ethereal and booming, especially when paired with the five-piece’s indie pop synths and keys. Here, we’re pleased to premiere the track’s accompanying video, in which Håvik appears covered in gold glitter as well as in blacklight paint. When not focused on Håvik, flashes of light illuminate the silhouette of a modern dancer.

“The video started with pictures I found on the internet, and it kind of grew out from that,” Håvik explains. The song itself, however, “is very much about escapism, both escaping your yourself and the world—just wanting to get high and get out, basically,” she said when it was released in April.

“Golden Ticket” is off Highasakite’s forthcoming album, Camp Echo (out May 20), and while Håvik admits that the particular track is more upbeat than the rest of the LP, the dim lyricism remains in synch with its overall tone. “The whole album, and ‘Golden Ticket’ as well, is inspired by things that happened in the world while we grew up,” she says. “It’s not a political album in the sense that I want people to side with a specific party or mindset, but it has been central in my life.”

In addition to the video, we’re also announcing Highasakite’s U.S. fall tour, which will begin on September 6 in New York at Rough Trade and continue through September 18, finishing at Casbah in San Diego.
