Casting Call: James Brown
In which we suggest who should star in the next big adaptation, remake, or historical film.
Rumors have been flying for years, but it looks like a James Brown biopic is officially underway. While Paramount Pictures and director Spike Lee were originally attached to the film and planned to star Wesley Snipes as “The Hardest Working Man In Show Business” prior to Brown’s death in 2006, the project is currently moving ahead with producers Brian Grazer and Mick Jagger, the latter of whom was greatly influenced by the singer.
Jagger said in a statement, “It’s a great honor to be involved with a project as rich as the story of the legendary James Brown. He was a mesmerizing performer with a fascinating life.” The biopic will focus on Brown’s early life struggling in extreme poverty and his rise to superstardom.
Tate Taylor, director of The Help, is currently in negotiations to direct the biopic, which the singer himself was involved with before he died of heart failure. But we’re far more interested to see who will play the electric funk trailblazer and friends. We’ve got a few suggestions.
