Casting Call: Doc Savage
In which we suggest who should star in the next big adaptation, remake, or historical film.
Fresh off the blockbuster success of Iron Man 3, writer-director Shane Black has set his sights on a big-screen adaption of pulp hero Doc Savage for Sony. Doc who? Before Iron Man and the Man of Steel, there was Doc Savage, Man of Bronze. A scientist, explorer, inventor, and generally upstanding citizen, Savage possesses unbelievable strength, a photographic memory, and expertise in martial arts. Savage comes with a cast of five supporting characters (“The Fabulous Five”), a swanky apartment on the 86th floor of the Empire State Building, and a fleet of cars, boats, and planes stored near the Hudson River under the name The Hidalgo Trading Company. He even has a “Fortress of Solitude” on the North Pole that predates the one created by the Superman.
Sony is reportedly prepping to “go all out” with Doc Savage and set it up as a tent-pole franchise. Black will direct and share writing credit with Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry.
Although the project is in its infancy, there are several characters guaranteed to make an appearance. Click through the slideshow for a look into who we think should play Savage, his buddies, and his arch-nemesis.
