The Saint Laurent Y Tote Takes Us Back to the Archives

Saint Laurent Y Tote

Vintage is in. Inspired by the house’s archives, the supple, oversized Saint Laurent Y Tote is the perfect companion for a trip to the library, or in this case, the Interview archives. To style out the chic new carryall, our art director Jack Vhay revisits our very first issue starring the inimitable filmmaker, Agnès Varda.

“I’m a collector so I always look for a bag I can carry books in, and this Y tote has an innate coolness that’s bringing me back to the archives. Let’s take a look at the very first issue of Interview.”

———

“Like the Saint Laurent Y tote, the premiere issue of Interview is classic and sexy. On the cover, we find Agnes Varda photographed on set of Lion’s Love (… and Lies) [1969] among the scantily-clad stars Viva, Jim Rado, and Jerry Ragni. It’s Varda, it’s Warhol, it’s glam, it’s underground, it’s mythological.”

“Viva is a total bombshell, one of Warhol’s first superstars. She obvsiouly would have been a Saint Laurent girl. Not to get too nostalgic but I can imagine her rocking up to Max’s Kansas City with a black Y tote and some little pumps. New York punk meets classic Hollywood.”
