“Head to Toe Swamp”: Doechii Takes Us to Acne Studios FW25

At l’Observatoire de Paris, some very important guests including Bladee, Peggy Gou, and The Dare sidled up to a runway adorned with a futuristic “skyline” sculptures inspired by Swedish nature for the Acne Studios FW25 show. After a glamorous procession of short hems and soft silhouettes, our editor-in-chief Mel Ottenberg tracked down the Tampa-raised rapper Doechii to talk bags, bites, and boiled peanuts—because sometimes you need a little Florida in France.

MEL OTTENBERG: I finally met the incredible Doechii. What’s up? Where are we at?

DOECHII: We’re here at Acne. I’m feeling hot. You see the baguette?

OTTENBERG: Yes, she’s on brand. How do you guys figure out how to transform Doechii into each brand every time you walk out the door?

DOECHII: Oh my god, that’s such a heavy question. I think you take it day by day. You take it moment by moment. You have an intention, you have passion, and you have a story. It’ll be easy to translate that into fashion, but you have to have a story first.

OTTENBERG: Totally. Is this look giving “swamp?”

DOECHII: You know, in a way I think it is. It’s in the glam and in the silhouette, this plaid, and even the skin of the baguette.

OTTENBERG: It’s nasty.

DOECHII: It kind of gives “swamp” a little bit, yeah.

OTTENBERG: Let’s get the shoes.

DOECHII: Let’s get into it.

OTTENBERG: Head to toe swamp. Did you ever have any scary encounters with an alligator?

DOECHII: Yeah, I mean, I had an alligator on my first video shoot and it almost bit me, but I kind of like that. Now she trusts me and we’re good friends.

OTTENBERG: Do you have an ultimate favorite meal in the entire state of Florida?

DOECHII: Okay, you might not know what it is, but I would say boiled peanuts. Don’t knock it until you try it.

OTTENBERG: If someone was gonna order it on Amazon, what would they have to order?

DOECHII: You can’t. That’s the thing. You have to go to the swamp. But you can also find them in Tampa, where I’m from.

OTTENBERG: True. Alright, babe. It was nice to meet you.
