Loewe SS25

FRIDAY  12:47 PM SEPTEMBER 27, 2024 PARIS

On yet another overcast day in Paris, Jonathan Anderson brought out a little sunshine at Loewe SS25, where bouncing flared skirts, impressionist graphics, and sheer florals abounded. After the show, our editor-in-chief snagged Justin Vivian Bond, Jeff Goldblum, Manu Rios, Jessica Gunning, Drew Starkey, and Vinnie Hacker to assess their taste in the finer things.

JUSTIN VIVIAN BOND

JUSTIN VIVIAN BOND: You need to get a new screen protector.

OTTENBERG: Yeah, this phone’s lived hard. Justin Vivian Bond, are you more of a Chopin or a Bach girl?

BOND: I am more of a Chopin because of my association with Anthony Roth Constanzo. I was thinking, “Oh, I should get that for her.” I’m more of a Modigliani fan, but they were completely not available.

OTTENBERG: Okay. What do you look for in a Jonathan Anderson Loewe show?

BOND: Some sort of new shape. There’s always a new shape and it’s always an inspiring shape. And for this particular show, I liked how all of those silk chiffon dresses were moving, because as a singer I like to be on stage and do as little as possible. So if the dress does the moving for me, then that’s a gift.

OTTENBERG: Having gone to shows sporadically over the decades, do you have a fashion nemesis?

BOND: No, everybody loves me and I love everybody, at least as far as they can tell. I’m just glad people can’t tell what I’m thinking.

OTTENBERG: Was Lee Radziwill your beauty reference this morning?

BOND: I was thinking more some pony kind of thing with my mane.

OTTENBERG: Oh, I see it. It’s perfect.

BOND: I wanna be like one of those little hobby horse girls. They are my inspiration.

OTTENBERG: I love that for you.

STYLE NOT COM

———

OTTENBERG: Style Not Com, are you more of a Manet or a Van Gogh person?

STYLE NOT COM: What?

OTTENBERG: Manet or Van Gogh.

STYLE NOT COM: Van Gogh.

OTTENBERG: Okay. Bach or Chopin? I don’t really know the answer.

STYLE NOT COM: Strauss.

OTTENBERG: Okay.

JEFF GOLDBLUM & EMILIE LIVINGSTON

OTTENBERG: You guys look really, really good. What were you saying to Anna [Wintour]? I saw you speaking to her.

JEFF GOLDBLUM:  She’s a dear. I can’t reveal any of our private conversations, but I adore seeing her on these occasions. She’s very delightful and warm. We were talking about trees. She’s a gardener, so we were talking about some of the florals that were represented in the work, plus a tree that we see in Italy. We’re spending a lot of time in Italy. Maybe you know what kind of tree it is. You see them in old paintings, it’s a long tall trunk and then—

EMILIE LIVINGSTON: It goes out.

GOLDBLUM: As if they’ve been clipped that way. And then there’s a lot of foliage at the top.

OTTENBERG: I’ve got a black thumb, so I don’t know. Would you wear the giant shoes? You have a beautiful foot.

GOLDBLUM: Hey, hey. Lay off my wife’s feet.

OTTENBERG: What do you think you’d wear the most out of the show?

LIVINGSTON: Okay, that first dress with that beautiful neckline. I loved the way it billowed out in white with the pink flowers. Also, those colorful a-line sequin dresses—there was a blue and a beautiful bright orange.

GOLDBLUM: I’d like to see you in many of those things.

LIVINGSTON: And then the pants with the top that looked almost like a bodysuit, with that little Loewe pebble and the asymmetrical stomach cutout.

GOLDBLUM: My stomach is already asymmetrical.

OTTENBERG: No, you look great. I just rewatched Earth Girls Are Easy like a month ago for inspiration because I want to have the aquarium from that movie in my apartment. What’s the Jeff Goldblum ‘80s movie that the kids need to get back into now?

GOLDBLUM: The Fly, of course. ‘86.

OTTENBERG: Cronenberg, kids. Get into it.

GOLDBLUM: Get into it. Masterful Cronenberg.

MANU RIOS

———

OTTENBERG: Hey, Manu Ríos. I think you could pull off some of these looks in the show. Would you wear a short skirt?

MANU RIOS: You know what, I’ve never done it, but never say never. I recently wore a look from Loewe with the feathers and it was beautiful, so…

OTTENBERG: What’s your favorite color?

RIOS: Red.

OTTENBERG: What’s your favorite emoji?

RIOS: I don’t really use many emojis. I’m gonna be basic and say the white heart.

OTTENBERG: Cute. Do you have a nemesis? A real enemy?

RIOS: I hate conflict. I hate getting in trouble. I just don’t like being aggressive, so I try to stay away from that. So no, I don’t think so.

OTTENBERG: Let’s get the full 360 look. Can I see the back? Fab.

JESSICA GUNNING

———

OTTENBERG: What did you think of the show?

JESSICA GUNNING: Amazing, my first fashion show. I loved it.

OTTENBERG: Wow, let’s get the full Loewe shot.

GUNNING: [Poses]

OTTENBERG: Are you more of a Van Gogh or Degas kind of girl?

GUNNING: Oh, Van Gogh. Let’s go with it.

OTTENBERG: Let’s go with it.

GUNNING: Let’s van-go with it. Nice to meet you.

OTTENBERG: Thank you.

VINNIE HACKER

———

OTTENBERG: Vinnie, any final thoughts?

VINNIE HACKER: I have a lot of final thoughts. The lights caught me off guard for a second when they first came on, but it was so amazing.

OTTENBERG: Do you have a fashion nemesis?

HACKER: I’m not sure.

OTTENBERG: Are you more of a Monet or Van Gogh guy?

HACKER: I’d say more of a Van Gogh guy.

OTTENBERG: I see that. Let me get a picture.

DREW STARKEY

OTTENBERG: Hey Drew.

DREW STARKEY: Hey.

OTTENBERG:  What’s up?

STARKEY: Oh you know, nothing much, just a casual day.

OTTENBERG:  Let’s see the look. Loewe, of course.

STARKEY: I love it, it feels like home. It feels like North Carolina a little bit. I feel comfortable.

OTTENBERG: What’s your favorite emoji?

STARKEY: I say this all the time, it’s the wizard emoji. But the one I use the most is the upside down smiley face emoji.

OTTENBERG:  Do you have a nemesis?

STARKEY: Yeah, he’s here but I can’t say it.

OTTENBERG: My nemesis is here too. Any advice for the kids at home?

STARKEY: Drink your water. Stay hydrated.

OTTENBERG:  Last question, when does Queer come out?

STARKEY: I can’t say.

OTTENBERG:  Okay, bye.
