At Lacoste, the Collars Stay Popping

Last night, a slew of crocodile-clad fashionistas descended on Midtown to celebrate the grand opening of Lacoste’s colorfully appointed 5th Avenue flagship. While attendees including Joan Smalls, Dara, Fiffany Luu, Levi McConaughey, and more mingled to the sounds of Benji B, our editors set out on a mission to do some very important reporting on the state of the polo shirt—first invented by the french brand nearly 100 years ago. Below are our findings.

If you were a Lacoste Polo, what color would you be?

Yellow. It’s classic Lacoste: spring, summer, tennis, here it is.

Buttoned or unbuttoned?

I got to say, buttoned at night. And then during the daytime, we’re out on the boat, maybe at the beach, we bring it down a couple buttons, let it breathe.

When’s the right time to pop your collar?

It’s a little late, you’ve been out with your friends for a little bit. And then you get home and you’re chillaxing, it’s time to put the collar up.

If you were a Lacoste Polo, what color would you be?

I am a black polo because it’s timeless and chic. You can dress it up or dress it down.

Half-tucked.

When’s the right time to pop your collar?

All the time.

Taxicab yellow.

Buttoned or unbuttoned?

Unbuttoned. Loosen up your buttons.

Tucked. Tuck it up.

When is the best time to pop your collar?

When you see a hot guy across the room.

I’m a very dark, midnight blue Lacoste polo.

Buttoned up or down?

One button buttoned.

I’ve always done the tuck.

Ooh. When I was little, my first Lacoste T-shirt was bought from a second hand thrift store and it had stripes on it. So I would say stripes.

I could do both. I’m verse.

Untucked.

When is the right time to pop your collar?

When you feel like you’re the shit, you pop your collar, you walk with confidence, and you just do it. There shouldn’t be a rule when to pop it or not.

I’m definitely navy because, although I like the black one, it kind of gives staff a bit.

When’s the right time to pop your collar?

Right after a good hookup. You put on the clothes, collar popped, and leave the house.

Light blue because it works with my hair color the most.

Definitely unbuttoned.

Tucked or untucked?

I mean, untucked if it’s more form-fitting, but if it’s not, tucked in. I think polos are so inherently preppy so you kind of want to play it up.

When is the right time to pop your collar?

When I know I’m about to get laid.

I’m green because I’m jealous of every single person that’s not me.
