Alanui’s Collection Is Perfect for Wandering the Open Desert

Highlands, lagoons, red mountains, dusty roads. The latest Fall/Winter ’21 campaign from the Italian brand Alanui takes us deep into nature in the form of a poetic fashion film, directed by Ivan Olita, titled “A Journey to The South of the World.” The film follows two Chilean siblings as they embark on a journey, narrated by the words of the award-winning Chilean author Andrea Amosson, to rediscover their roots and their homeland. What follows next is a Mad Max-esque motorcycle ride across the vast terrain of Chile’s Atacama Desert. Of course, no true desert outing is complete without the wardrobe: both characters don colorful pieces from the new collection along the way.

If you’ve been searching for the perfect ‘fit for your outdoor music festivals this summer, look no further. Alanui’s signature cardigan makes an appearance in the new collection, along with its geometric patterns and South American-inspired textiles.

For Alanui, the collection is about commitment to place— the label cast local actors to star as the film’s protagonists, and committed to supporting the work of a local desert bookstore, “Librería del Desierto,” that promotes works by Chilean authors. In collaboration with the bookshop’s owner Diego Álamos, Alanui financed the printing and distribution of an unpublished manuscript, Stars Are the Night’s Chronicles, by Chilean writer Tomàs Browne. Half of these volumes will be available for sale in the Librería del Desierto, and the other half will be donated to schools and libraries in the area. We love a fashion moment with a great cause.
