RORSCHACH TEST
“That’s a Big Fat No”: Kristin Cavallari on Cabo, Co-Parenting, and Combat Boots on the Beach
If you came of age in the 2000s, you probably remember a seminal moment in reality television history, when Stephen Colletti, on Spring Break in Cabo with his fellow Laguna Beach scoundrels, called his on-again, off-again girlfriend Kristin Cavallari a slut. Cavallari, tipsy in a trucker hat, laughs off the bromide, leaning back into her flavor of the week for a kiss. “I was actually really proud of myself for how I reacted,” Cavallari told us last week. “And by the way, I do not regret dancing on the bar.” Things have turned out pretty well for her, anyway. In recent years, the 38-year-old mother of three has parlayed teenage stardom into a lifestyle empire with Uncommon James,, penning an autobiography and three cookbooks. Then came her podcast Let’s Be Honest, a no-holds-barred look at dating, divorce, wellness, motherhood, and more. This month, Cavallari took off on her first live podcast tour, concluding in New York City on March 13th—plus, it’s all being filmed for an E! docuseries, Honestly Cavallari: The Headline Tour, out in May. But before Cavallari got too busy, we enlisted her to take part in this week’s Rorschach Test, in which she sounds off on small talk, first loves, and, of course, Speidi.

FIRST LOVES
“They can really make or break you and change the whole course of your dating life.”
———
CO-PARENTING
“The ultimate test in life.”
———
FLIP PHONES
“They instantly bring me back to high school. There was a real power in flipping. Flipping your phone if you were mad or something, you just got off of a heated conversation, it felt so good.”
———
“SLUT”
“That word was thrown around so loosely in the early 2000s. Now I feel like what you can and can’t say has definitely changed, which is probably a good thing. But if we’re going to go down that road and talk specifically about the Cabo episode [of Laguna Beach], I was actually really proud of myself for how I reacted to Stephen calling me a slut. All I did was laugh and try to walk away, even though I easily could have popped off. And by the way, I do not regret dancing on the bar.”

HEIDI AND SPENCER
“I’ll forever love them so much. If you can look at them as comedic relief, they are the best people on the planet. And I love that they’re now America’s sweethearts.”
———
ICKS
“They’re very real. Literally, one little thing can just totally just change the game.”
———
CHEATERS
“I used to hate cheaters and I thought, there is no excuse. And I still don’t think it’s okay, but it’s not so black and white. As I’ve gotten older, I have more empathy towards everybody in life, so I’m not one to judge anymore. I know I’ll get a lot of shit for saying that.”
———
VILLAINS
“They’re the most necessary part of any show. Without them, there wouldn’t even be a show. They’re the glue that holds it all together.”
———
CABO
“It will forever be my favorite place on the planet for consistency reasons. I always joke that it’s my hometown. You always know what you’re going to get with Cabo. It’s going to be a good time, you’re going to have good food, good service, and great weather.”
———
COMBAT BOOTS ON THE BEACH
“That’s a big, fat no. Why is Justin Bobby popping into my head though? Well, I guess he did that. But if anyone can pull it off, it’s him.”
———
SMALL TALK
“I will avoid social situations because I hate it so much. The older I get, the more I just can’t do it.”
———
COUNTRY BOYS
“I thought I would be obsessed with them when I moved to Tennessee, but it turns out they’re not what they’re chalked up to be, at least not the Tennessee ones.”
———
BONFIRES
“They’re very much a Laguna Beach thing. I can’t tell you the last time I had a bonfire, but if I were to go to one today, it would instantly take me back to high school.”
———
THE ENDING OF THE HILLS
“A lot of people interpreted it to mean the whole thing was fake. I didn’t take it like that. It was us tipping our hats to the viewers like, we’ve seen you the whole time and we’re also in on the joke. I thought it was a really creative, genius way to end the show. I don’t know how else you would’ve ended The Hills, to be honest.”
