Alix Earle On Haters, Lip Gloss, and Frat Weddings

New York Fashion Week is well underway, but everyone knows the party actually starts the day before. The Dutch designer duo Viktor&Rolf kicked off the festivities with a dinner party in honor of Emily Ratajkowski, the new face of the brand’s FLOWERBOMB fragrance, which celebrates “the extraordinary power of transformation pushed to the extreme.” EmRata—alongside a slew of VIP guests including actor Paul Forman, Ziwe, Tina Leung and Dorothy Wang, Miss Fame, Tinx, and TikTok’s IT beauty girl Alix Earle—danced the night away at Jean’s in downtown Manhattan. In between drinks, and a multitude of selfie requests from adoring fans, we caught up briefly with Earle for a chat about Rihanna, haters, and lip gloss.

ERNESTO MACIAS: Hi, Ernesto from Interview. 

ALIX EARLE: Hi!

MACIAS: We’re obsessed with you. 

EARLE: I don’t know about an interview…

MACIAS: It’s casual. Is this your first Fashion Week?

EARLE: Yes!

MACIAS: How do you feel about it?

EARLE: I’m having a great time. I’m in and out, everyone’s super sweet.

MACIAS: What are you most excited about?

EARLE: Just meeting everyone.

MACIAS: Okay, you just reached four million followers. How does that feel for you?

EARLE: It’s super exciting, I can’t believe it. [Laughs]

MACIAS: Are you going to watch the Super Bowl?

EARLE: I am. I’m actually getting on a 6 a.m. flight tomorrow.

MACIAS: To Arizona at 6 a.m.? Wow.

EARLE: Yes. 

MACIAS: Okay, what’s your favorite Rihanna song?

EARLE: Oh gosh. “Disturbia.”

MACIAS: You know what? When I was in high school I choreographed a dance routine to “Disturbia.”  Anyway, what’s your going out beauty secret?

EARLE: Bring a powder puff and apply that throughout the night. And lip gloss.

MACIAS: Can you explain to everyone that doesn’t know Greek life what a frat wedding is?

EARLE: Basically, it’s like a fake wedding—you’re not actually getting married—but you do the whole thing. You have the bridesmaids, groomsmen, and you set up a tent and have a wedding. 

MACIAS: What do you have to say to all the Alix haters out there?

EARLE: I don’t know, I love them. We love them.
