A Recap of Free People x Interview’s Warholian Wonderland at the Andy in Oz Opening
Last night, we hosted a VIP opening of Andy in Oz, a collaborative exhibit between Interview and Free People in support of their Creative Spirits Fund, a program that advocates for the importance of arts in early public education, in partnership with Americans for the Arts. For the next week, ten iconic Warhol portraits by Christopher Makos, remastered in color, will be on view in the West Village. The opening reveled in all things Andy; artists of Interview generations present and past, from Calvin Kein to Luisa Opalesky to Richie Shazam, came together in the airy 8th street gallery to jam to old-school downtown rock spun by Scott Ewalt, The Cock’s resident DJ. As Debbie Harry and Velvet Underground bounced off the brick walls, bite-sized sliders and fries floated around the room to honor Warhol’s hamburger obsession while guests sipped custom Warholian cocktails like Makos Manhattans, Creative Spirits, and Lady Warhols. We think our founding father would be proud.
